New Shows. Same Fun! Hub City Improv Spring 2026 Shows

One of the key aspects to improv is trying something without knowing how it’s going to go and being willing to fail. So when it came to planning our spring season’s round of shows, we decided to do just that: try something new and know the worst we could do is have fun while failing.

Usually for show weekends, we have only one show each night. But this time, we decided to try something new: dividing our improv cast up between two shows. With each show offering two completely unique experiences.

Now, to fully appreciate the discrepancy between the two, it’s important you understand how short form differs from long form improv. And thankfully, it's really quite simple. Short form is improvised scenes that are…short. And long form is improvised scenes that are…as you might have already guessed, long! Within the world of these two forms are different games and structures that provide guidance for this spontaneous art form.

Example of short form games: www.improvbroadway.com/short-form-list

So while one of the shows (The Hub City Improv Show) had a heavy emphasis on short form games with a little bit of long form at the end, the other (A Long Form the Ride: Improv Comedy) was almost entirely composed of long form. The result was twice the laughs and two audience experiences that looked drastically different from each other. The Hub City Improv Show had a Who’s Line is it Anyway feel with lots of quick, high energy games that changed throughout the night. A Long Form the Ride: Improv Comedy featured longer scenes that felt more akin to live theater than sketch comedy.

It’s exciting to bring more improv show styles to our community here in Jackson. As we continue to grow our improv community in town, we are excited to experiment with new forms that are sure to bring fresh comedy shows to the Hub City. Besides, the worst that could happen is we fail and have fun while doing it.
