SPELLING BEE AUDITIONS

Family is at the heart of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.  The story is as much about the people who shape us as it is about the competition itself. It feels especially meaningful that our run will close on Mother’s Day, a reminder of the many ways family supports and encourages us along the way. I’ve been lucky to have that kind of support in my own life, and my family has always been there cheering on my artistic dreams and goals. That support has carried me through many projects, including directing Ride the Cyclone with Hub City Theatre Company summer 2024. Over the years I’ve also had the chance to direct shows like Into the Woods, The Drowsy Chaperone, Annie, and The Addams Family, and every show has reinforced how much I value the process of building a story together.

This spring I’ll be directing The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, and we’re looking for a great group of performers to bring this hilarious and heartfelt show to life. If you come audition, you can expect a rehearsal process centered on collaboration, discovery, and a welcoming environment where everyone feels encouraged to contribute. Those ideas reflect the values of Hub City Theatre Company—Filling the Gap, Raising the Standard, Building Welcoming Spaces, Working Collaboratively, Pursuing Joy, and Acting with Integrity—and they’ll guide how we build this production from the read-through to the final performance.

Auditions will take place March 6, 2026 from 6:00–8:30 PM and March 8 from 2:00–4:30 PM in the Basement Theater at the Carnegie Cultural Arts Center in Jackson. All roles are open, with the exception of Rona Lisa Peretti, which will be performed by Abbey Hubbard, last seen onstage in Hub City Theatre Company’s production of The Last Five Years. Performers of all experience levels are welcome.  Please direct any and all questions to James Matthew Wyatt through email at jamesmatthewwyatt1@gmail.com
