David Burke
Community Engagement Director
With over 60 years working endlessly in the theatre, David has spend most of his life on this wonderful journey. With joy, passion, excitement, and coursing craze he has directed over 75 plays from great tragedies to Shakespeare, from Neil Simon to Anton Chekhov, from musical comedies to over the edge complicated dramas from theatre of the absurd, to borbi hildrens plays.
Having spent a number of years in professional theater in Houston, Texas where he earned a MFA in acting and directing at the University of Houston, David moved on to become the theatre director at Union University for 35 years (a record as the tenure of any professor in the theatre program). There he was a director, actor, dancer, technician, teacher, and mentor to countless students.
After retirement in 2019, David continued to teach part time, but also pursued other art forms (see his facebook page David Burke Artist). Currently he is the Volunteer Theatre Consultant in the Ned.
He is elated to be Director for Hub City Theatre's Agnes of God, a play that has been on his bucket list for years. Also, to be on board in this great area of downtown theatre in the arts district.
